Morpheus Wellness July 2024 Chronicles

Emily Maguire made a blog post from Canva, so it was made of 4 image files. I reformatted to HTML/CSS on a WordPress site. The CSS must be put into each tag to style how this website is set up. I made it so Google can crawl the webpage and we can set focus keyword, slug, and meta description.

As Floridians, we love spending time in the sun. However, UV rays can harm our skin and eyes.

According to Irene Kuno, an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Wilmer Eye Institute at John Hopkins, the skin on our eyelids is the thinnest and most sensitive to UV rays, making it more prone to damage.

UV damage can cause eye issues like dryness, vision problems, wrinkles, sagging, and pigmentation changes.

The National Eye Institute says UV exposure can lead to:

Cataracts – cloudy areas in the eye’s lens causing blurry or hazy vision.

Eyelid Cancers – including basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas.

Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD)** – blurs central vision with increased risk from prolonged UV exposure.

To protect your eyes from UV damage, wear sunglasses and hats.

Choose the right sunglasses by considering:

Lens material: Look for 99 - 100% UVA/UVB protection or UV400 rating.

Fit: Ensure the frame covers the skin around your eyes to minimize light entry from all angles.

Use: For activities near water or sand, consider polarized lenses to minimize glare.

<h1 style=”text-align: center; color: purple; background: linear-gradient(white, blue); text-style: italic;”>Healthy Aging – Stay
Hydrated this Summer

<p style=”color; purple;”>Staying hydrated in summer heat is especially important to maintain both mental and physical health. Dehydration is common amongst older adults, and it is the most preventable cause of hospitalizations, urinary tract infections, and falls.

<h3 style=”color: purple;”>How much water do we need to stay hydrated?

Generally speaking, we should take ⅓ of our body weight and drink that number of ounces of fluid. For example, if you weigh 150 pounds, you should aim to drink 50 ounces of water every day. As always, talk to your doctor to determine how much water you should be consuming per day.

How to Stay Hydrated Every Day

Preventing dehydration can help keep aging adults safe. To maintain a healthy mind and body, you need to stay hydrated every day, and here’s how!

1. Choose foods with high water content

Water-rich foods include cucumbers, watermelon, lettuce, strawberries, and celery.

2. Keep water within reach – ALWAYS

3. Limit alcohol intake

Alcohol is a diuretic.

4. Change it up!

Jazz up H2O by adding lemon, lime, cucumber, or berries. You can also switch it up with low-sugar sports drinks or powders.

5. Build a hydration routine

Make it a point to offer hydration to your loved ones throughout the day.

Fill up your water bottle!

Let's take care of ourselves and our loved ones by prioritizing hydration this summer and all year round. Remember, a well-hydrated body is a healthy body!

<div style=”background: linear-gradient(blue, white);>

<h2 style=”color: black”>Importance of Hydration

According to the National Council on Aging, research shows 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. Adults 60 and older are at a greater risk of dehydration due to a natural drop in thirst levels and body composition changes. Our bodies use water to maintain temperature, remove waste, and lubricate our joints. Making sure your aging loved one gets enough water is an important step in maintaining their health.
