I am in a major transitional period for my career, and it is very difficult to explain who I am, my experience, my vision, my mission, with just my resume. I may not have 3 years of experience with JavaScript, but I have experience. The web development profession is about change and adaptation, and then more change. You either have the drive, enthusiasm, dedication, and tenacity, or you don't. If you strive for improvement, you can achieve great things. Are you capable?
I have been a Physical Therapist Assistant since 2008 and 2009. I am usually pretty modest about what I do, because to me it's just like, of course, this is what is the right thing to do. Why would I not help someone get moving and improve their life?
I recently have had a very significant case. I started seeing this lady in February. She was on hospice. She would barely move. She was so sensitive that if you touched her the slightest, she would act like she was in severe pain. She was scared to move, and barely spoke. She had dementia. We also had a language barrier (English and Spanish), cultural/family differences, different background, and large age gap. We had a lot to overcome to even build a relationship.
I worked with her twice a week. In less than 4-5 months, she went from confining herself to a short life on bedrest, to being able to get up by herself without assistive equipment, talking, joking, laughing, dancing. And she began feeding herself. They stopped using the Hoyer lift, and moved her out of a high-back wheelchair with a pommel/horn cushion into a regular wheelchair with a regular cushion when she wasn't in bed or sitting on the couch or dining table. She had the freedom and independence to get up and go to the bathroom by herself. She was able to get in a car with her daughter to go to doctor appointments and move to a new facility.
It wasn't easy, but I figured out what to do to get her going. I did this, when no one else in her life would.
